Morning Rituals

Morning Rituals

In the early 1980s I attended a conference in Kamloops BC. A Vancouver bookstore was there, with a big table selling all manner of books and posters, and a variety of lapel pins.
One of the pins declared “I wake up slowly” and I purchased it, and I wore it often.
That I wake up slowly was a truth I had ever been able to articulate before. Owning and displaying that pin gave me a sense of permission to be my real self in the world. A part of my makeup that had ...

Remembering

Remembering

Sometimes, the focus of meditation and quiet time is to remember: to remember who we are, to connect with the wonder of who we were before we entered into the Human Experience.
This is a concept often phrased as “We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey.”
German philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel  1770 – 1831) published the dictum that ‘matter is spirit fallen into a state of self-otherness’, and this may have inf...

Path. Walk. Change.

Path. Walk. Change.

Labyrinths are spiritual tools which focus energy. When we walk them, our own energy fields are exposed to frequencies and vibrations that rarely touch us in other locations.
Walking a labyrinth can be a moving meditation. Slowly, and mindfully travelling the path allows for an open connexion to Spirit. Insights may flow, solutions to specific problems may suddenly seem obvious.
There are measurable physical effects from meditation and focussed contemplative...

The Freedom of Spirit

The Freedom of Spirit

When we, immortal and eternal souls, arrive in the physical world, commencing our Human Experience, we get labeled according to obvious physical attributes.

Yet we are not merely physical beings, and even before we have spoken language, we are able to access the unseen Emotional Plane. We feel when we are safe and when we aren't. We recognize the physical senses like hunger and cold, and can feel fear if nothing happens to feed and warm us. We are capable of f...

Enduring Bliss

Enduring Bliss

Regular readers know that in August of 2013 I was granted an occurrence that I have variously labelled with the synonyms Quantum Moment; Spiritual Download; and Peak Experience.
The name Peak Experience comes from the studies by the American psychologist Abraham Maslow (1908 –1970), best known for creating a hierarchy of needs.
According to Maslow, there are always four aspects to a peak experience: it is vivid; unexpected; benevolent: and enduring. It is also s...

Balancing Balance

Balancing Balance

The search for balance is a part of life in the Millennium.
This week Northern Hemisphere is crossing the Autumnal Equinox, and as the north enjoys the festival of Mabon, south of the equator this is Ostara. Many people acknowledge the day: memes scroll across social media, and inspirational slogans about balance show up in emails, tweets and blogs. Mine is no exception.
Solstices have an air of the radical about them. In December and June they indicate massivel...

Mindfulness in All the Planes of Being

Mindfulness in All the Planes of Being

September 12 is Mindfulness Day. It is a day when pausing in the rush of life can be made a priority. If you have a regular practice this is a special day; if the idea is new to you, rest assured it is simple and holds many benefits.
When learning Mindfulness, the method most easily successful is through paying attention to breathing. Finding the focus for mindful breathing may not always be obvious. The four planes of being, as illuminated in a ...

Stepping Out of Limitation

Stepping Out of Limitation

The dimension in which we live is one of expansion and growth and change.
The origin of this physical universe is explained as a blossoming from the small to the large. The stories, myths and theories take various forms and flavours, and none suggests that completion has been achieved.
We may believe that an elephant called the world into being by trumpeting the first Aum; that in the beginning God created both the heavens and the earth; that father-sky...

What’s My Motivation?

What’s My Motivation?

I am currently involved backstage of a community theatre project. Watching the cast rehearse has reminded me of something Dr. Wayne Dyer said at the Wishes Fulfilled event I attended in Boston.
We have each inhabited many bodies since we arrived in a seven or eight pound version of ourselves. We have grown and changed. We have inhabited a toddler body and a child body. We had a teen body and multiple others en route to the body we use today.
      The actors I a...
