Looking Forward, Looking Back

Posted by Jo Leath on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, In : Mindfulness
Looking Forward, Looking Back.

In 2016 I celebrated often. I had personal reasons, and I took time to celebrate many aspects of my life and my work in these blogs.

In 2017 I plan to amplify the energies that serve me the best, and doubtless some of that work will echo here, too.

In order to find clarity about my direction for 2017, I needed to know which ideas and projects should be left behind, and which should be brought forward.

Here are twelve questions which helped me to s...

Celebrate Ruin

Celebrate Ruin

Elizabeth Gilbert wrote "Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation."
As this year comes to a close, many systems are in ruins. Recognizing that we are launching a time of transformation might help to calm concerns about the way forward.
2016 has been a tumultuous year. In Numerology it was a year of Nine Energy, because 2+0+1+6=9. Numerology almost always reduces numbers to a single digit, which means Nine is the highest, the greatest, the one which concludes...

Celebrate October

Celebrate October

Where I live, a new highway junction has been installed during the last few years. It features a roundabout, sometimes called a traffic circle or a rotary. I am always aware of the infinite possibilities the roundabout gives me: if I miss my turn, I can go around again. If I can't read the signs, I can make another circuit, making sign-reading my priority. There is no stopping on the roundabout, so I am never holding up other vehicles. I am free to circle as many times as...

Celebrate June

As the days grow longer due to the earth's tilt, there is more daylight for celebrations to take place in June!
World Environment Day is June 5th. According to the United Nations, this is one of the principal days to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and action.
June 6th marks the beginning of the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan, a time of fasting, worship, and renewal of family ties. Muslims do not eat during daylight hours as an...

Saturday May 7, 2016 is the eight annual World Labyrinth Day coordinated by the Labyrinth Society.
World Labyrinth Day has a focus on Peace. People walking labyrinths at 1 o'clock local time, will send peaceful and peace-promoting energy rippling around the globe for 24 hours. I will be hosting an event in Masham QC, to which readers are welcome.

May Ahead

May Ahead

The month of May begins about halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice.
A May Day festival of Beltaine was written about in some of Ireland's earliest literature: it was observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. After declining somewhat in the mid-20th century, Celtic neo-pagans, nature lovers, and Wiccans now observe Beltane as an important spiritual day, which is marked on May 1st in the North, and November 1st in the Southern Hemisphere.

Spring and April

Spring and April

In the northern hemisphere, the  name 'Spring Fever'  is applied to  feelings of anticipation and restlessness felt at this time of year. Much of the wildlife, and even domestic animals, are in that part of their life-cycle when a new generation is about to be unleashed on the world.
In the west, April begins with All Fools Day, a day of practical jokes and good humour. No single sensible origin for the day has been discovered, and there are many similar global tradit...

March Forward

March Forward

The next month in the North brings the Spring Equinox on the 20th, and many other holidays:  perhaps the return of longer, warmer days encourages people to celebrate.
People interested in Human Rights will be marking International Women's Day on the 8th; science buffs will honour Pi Day on the 14th; and anyone with a claim to Irish heritage will party for St. Patrick on the 17th.
The Hindu Festival of Colours, or Holi, begins on March 24th this year. Holi signifies the...

Celebrating Calendars

 Celebrating Calendars

Today's internationally accepted civil calendar is the Gregorian Calendar, named for Pope Gregory XIII  who introduced it in 1582. It is based on the Julian Calendar, introduced under the authority of Julius Caesar in 46 BCE. It was designed with 365 days in a year, and 366 days every fourth year.
2016 is the 4713th year of the Chinese Calendar, and February 4th is the new moon, and Festival of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Leap into February

The coming month is filled with notable days: Chinese New year; Mardi Gras; Ash Wednesday; Valentine's Day and in the US the 15th marks President's Day.
February 2nd is the midway point between the winter solstice and the Spring Equinox. It is celebrated as Imbolc: a word that has roots in several areas. Imbolc can be  pronounced IMbowc with an ow sound like cow, or as i-MOLG.
In the Gaelic world, February 2nd is Brigid's Day, a festival connected to the new growth...

Celebrating Celebrations

Entertainment
Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote “People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained.”
Entertainment is an industry with immense economic resources and power. It is also quite adept at creating celebrations for its members, and somehow millions of us have agreed to be spectators as they display their accomplishments and success.
In the next six weeks or so, entertainers will carry ...

Celebrate This Year

Celebrate This Year
Bowie
This blog is mostly not about David Bowie.
My current experience, online and in person, is overtaken by tributes and memories and personal stories about the impact Bowie's career had on society; on music and art; on individual expression.
My life somehow kept me largely oblivious to the details of Bowie's work, although I never lived in a vacuum and have been aware of him. I know and recognize 'Ground Control to Major Tom' references – recen...

All Nine, All the Time

All Nine, All the Time
    This New Year we have shifted into a calendar vibration of the Number Nine: 2 + 0 + 1 + 6 = 9.
Nine in Numerology
In Numerology, digits are added together until only one remains. Nine is therefore the highest: Ten is 1 + 0 = 1, starting the cycle over again. Nine is thus representative of the completion of the cycle, the place where the lessons of the previous Numbers fuse into profound teaching.
Nine as (not) a Conclusion
Nine is the part of the cycle which ...

Happy New Numbers

Happy New Numbers

2016 arrives to insert a Nine vibration into all of our lives. 2 + 0 + 1 + 6 = 9

Nine is the point on the Number Cycle where we move towards new beginnings.  Nine helps us to complete work, some of it may be quite new, and some of it may have been with us for nine or eighteen or twenty-seven years!
With Nine energy it is possible to release stale situations which have been clinging to us, maybe even impeding our progress. Nothing is wasted in the universe. Energy is n...

Keep Moving
Yule
At the time of the December Solstice, a festival known as the Feast of Juul has been observed in Scandinavia for more than two thousand years. It is from Juul that we get the term 'Yule'  for this time of year in the northern world.
Traditional Juul celebrations included the lighting of fires to mirror the return of the light and warmth of the sun after the shortest night. A large log was brought to the hearth and set ablaze as a tribute the Norse god Thor. The ashes...

Look Back, Look Forward

Life is about growth and change. The calendar provides us with a tool to measure how our lives have moved, and December is a natural time to look back and see where we were, and what progress we can claim.
Universal Year
2015 has been a Universal Year with a vibration of Eight. Eight resides in the Mental plane, and makes a space for thoughtfulness and theorizing. We have all been granted twelve months for paying attention to conditions in the world, and also intr...

Winding Along the Path

Winding Along the Path

The path of the labyrinth is a metaphor for the path through life. We move forward, believing we understand the location of our destination, and the path diverts us, turns us, sends us off on a detour. Continuing to walk, appreciating the new vistas and directions, we are enriched on our journey. Despite repeated deviations from expectation, the path always leads to the centre. Feelings of stress, worry or blame as we travel the roundabout way point to lessons we are...

Prepare for Great Beginnings

Posted by Jo Leath on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, In : Numerology
Prepare for Great Beginnings

Numerology is a vast discipline. Our personal charts are very individual, being created from our date of birth and the letters of our name, extending through how we express ourselves, what our intentions are, and which energies are present with us at any given time.
Alongside that personal calendar, the Number energies of the 'regular' calendar also vibrate and contribute to our experience. As the date changes, the frequencies of universal energy surround...
