The experience of Human Life, or what Gary Zukav calls the Earth school, is different for each of us.
He writes: “Emotions are classes in the Earth school. Some classes are about fear, and some are about love. The Universe is your tutor, and your classroom is your life. The main course in the Earth school, Authentic Power, is the same for everyone, but different students need different courses in order to complete it.”
Problems to Overcome
Things happen in our lives, and the lives of our friends, that we can easily identify as opportunities to learn. These lessons are often about overcoming some obstacle or difficulty. We look back on childhood privations and see the strength and resilience that developed as we overcame our problems.  
We talk with others and soon recognize how overcoming language barriers has moved new Canadians forward on a path of expansion. When we hear tales of children living with alcoholics, often taking very adult responsibilities in the absence of effective adults, we admire the way they have overcome odds we wish no child would face. 
As adults working towards Spiritual Growth, and studying to understand the nature of Soul Expression, we are ready to honour and celebrate the successful overcomings of our selves and our colleagues.
Yet the profound challenges that we are pleased to label negative do not tell the whole story.
Overcoming Advantage
For some adults the overcoming that faces them as they turn to explore Spirit, is an overcoming of advantage.
This is, counterintuitively, a very difficult journey.  Progress is slow. While the eventual urge toward Spirit is a real and vital part of any life, for the advantaged there is no desire to leave the past behind. 
For those escaping poverty or addiction, the move away from the past is a step towards healing, growth and Spirit. For those who have lived with affluence and influence, there is no default desire to eliminate the experiences of childhood and youth for something ‘better’. What is ‘better’?
Affluence is portrayed as the great success of our society. When it is the water in which one swims, one may remain unaware of the assumptions and judgements that are acquired in that comfortable space. Overcoming the worldview that poor people have failed at life is not easy. For one who lived with all the material trappings of life, it seems a clear and logical conclusion. The realization that in order to explore personal enlightenment the facile conclusions of a prosperous, or even opulent past must be cast aside as thoroughly as the sense of worthlessness carried by a survivor of abuse.
For the teachings of the Earth school to penetrate arrogance that lives in concepts such as ‘My family is full of winners: other people are losers.’ there is a good deal of overcoming that needs to happen. 
The first move towards a new way of being is openness to entertain the possibility that the silver spoon was not the pinnacle of greatness, despite what previous generations taught.
Society is Shifting. What was is past, and a new day dawns.

Whatever overcoming is along your path, it is likely to be found, encoded in your Numerology Chart. The discoveries you make there can help you to focus your activities and enjoy your growth and your life.

Growth from Decay

    My life is rooted at the edge of Gatineau Park, close to Canada's National Capital.  There are hundreds of hectares of trees; dozens of species. In Autumn they present an array of colours that does not translate easily to either language or digital photography.
    In some human habitats autumn leaves are scooped up and transported away. I am lucky to live where the natural cycle continues, mostly uninterrupted, until snow impedes ...
