Numbers and Chakras
A Chakra is a centre of spiritual power in the human body. It is an aspect of human identity which cannot be seen or touched.
According to yoga tradition there are seven Chakras, located in a line from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each is associated with a colour, and a specific energy.
When the Number Cycle is imposed on the Chakra system, it expands the series to include all nine digits. This means that the Earth Chakra below the feet is included, and that a position above the crown of the head is added.

One is the Number of beginnings, and each of us has been formed from the physical matter that makes up the Earth.  Carl Sagan taught that “The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” Our physical selves are pieces of the Cosmos.
Two is the number for connexion and relationship. In this view,  Two sits with the Root Chakra -- that place where we sit upon the earth. Two is the energy that supports all of our relationships, with Mother Planet and with each other. The Root Chakra is the place where our physical conception took place, and where we can make the choice to create a new generation. Two informs the relationship we have with the person in the mirror, and how we define our individuality.
Three, which is a creative energy, is located at the Sacral Chakra, traditionally interpreted as Creative. From this place of instinct and gut-knowing we bring forth ideas and concepts which are new to the physical world. We are a portal for that which is newly arriving in the physical.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is the seat of self-image, self-knowledge and self-honouring. When aligned with the foundational energy of Four it provides the strongest possible basis for our experience in the physical, human experience.
Five is expansive, growing energy, and when located with the Heart Chakra it reveals that love is the role of life itself. Expanding Heart energy lets us include love for all things, for the living layer of the planet as well as the ever-changing wonders that seem not alive.
Six, the Number of Beauty and Service is related to the Throat Chakra, which is the seat of communication and expression. Our communities will always benefit from our contributions, which may be as practical as filling sand bags against the spring floods, or as nebulous as reading poetry in the marketplace. Our clearest communication does not slide into any kind of self-serving or unkindness.
Seven is called the Teacher, and it is a Spiritual Energy. Seven Energy at the Third Eye Chakra represents that which we know without learning. This is a conduit through which the the wisdom of Source can make itself known to us.
Eight is the flowing energy of the Infinite Source. It loops around, like an in-breath and an out-breath, maintaining our connexion to the balanced and animating power of the Unseen. In the Chakra system, our LifeForce is deemed to enter though our Crown Chakra which is where the Eight is located.
Nine, the Energy of Unity, holistic systems, and inter-connexion is now depicted on the Unseen Source outside our physical selves.
By combining the Number Cycle with the Chakras it becomes possible to gain deeper understanding of both systems, and to appreciate the subtle design available when we a ready to learn.
