Celebrate Ruin

Elizabeth Gilbert wrote "Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation."
As this year comes to a close, many systems are in ruins. Recognizing that we are launching a time of transformation might help to calm concerns about the way forward.
2016 has been a tumultuous year. In Numerology it was a year of Nine Energy, because 2+0+1+6=9. Numerology almost always reduces numbers to a single digit, which means Nine is the highest, the greatest, the one which concludes the cycle.
    2+0+1+7 = 10, and 1+0=1. With a One total, 2017 begins a new cycle.
The Number Cycle, like a wheel, has no real beginning or ending. The cycle turns through the digits, as we progress through our lives, and our personal life-wheel turns in a spiral, not a circle.

We progress through learning and growing and nurturing our souls as they come to understand the nature of life.
A One year does not mean starting over, or beginning again, it is an opportunity to build on all that has gone before. The blog post Around and Forward, has more on this.
Western Society has been changed by the happenings of 2016. For some, endings have been thrust upon them. People who were not previously engaged with Big Picture issues now they feel called to participate.
It is not necessary to list all the endings and ruins of the year: each is a facet on a single jewel, connected and touching others. The light refracted by the whole stone illuminates everyone.

The Oxford English Dictionary selected the word post-truth as the  word of the year for 2016. The prefix post signifies ‘belonging to a time in which the specified concept has become irrelevant’, suggesting a year that will be remembered for moving away from the veracity of facts, into a time of perception. My perspective is different from many, certainly from the mainstream promoted in media-for-profit. So-called objective truth, now seen to be biased, is in ruins.
Into this Nine energy arrived multiple opportunities for awakening from the programming and propaganda which often motivate our unthinking behaviours and choices.
We have been shown the differing realities of people who share the planet with us: we can no longer cloak ourselves in Not-Knowing.
This year has ended the comfort of ignorance and the silence that accompanies it. Privilege has been defined and described and highlighted by the marginalized majority.
The year has shone a blinding light on unjust truths, on very real lived-experiences, on the flaws in the modern economy which we cannot pretend away with clear consciences.
If ruin is a gift, then 2016 has been profoundly generous. We are all on the road, and in a position to choose the nature of the coming transformation. It is the work of our lives to create a destination to serve the dignity and dreams of everyone.
