I Ching

I Ching

Toss a Coin
I grew up in a culture that was not averse to tossing a coin to resolve a dispute, or to settle an argument. Heads might win, tails could lose, or vice versa. By casting coins they believed that they would receive exactly the message that they need to get, the advice they need to hear, and the instructions they need to follow. Participants in the ritual would call for the outcome they favoured, and the rest was left to ‘chance’.
It was a familiar way to settle ...

Nothing Without Consent

Nothing Without Consent
When I first began travelling around and offering readings, I thought I would be travelling and giving readings. I learnt a lot.
In those early days I encountered -- and sometimes I still do -- firmly held and mistaken beliefs about the nature of my work.
I have met people who claimed they were afraid of the idea.
"You might read my mind" they would say, and I was never comfortable enough to ask them what it was about their thoughts that created such a concern.

For th...

Cooperative Components

Cooperative Components

I first heard the phrase Cooperative Components among the teachings of Abraham Hicks.  It is a way of understanding the interconnectedness of all things.
When we notice a particular event or circumstance we are invited to see how the universe has cooperated to provide that experience in order for us to move towards our intentions.
One of the simplest ways to locate a 'cooperative' message is by drawing an oracle card. When I was working in Nova Scotia, the...

Resistance and Futility

Resistance and Futility

Several times this week, a concept has presented itself to me, a phenomenon I usually refer to as a polterghost. (Read more on that here)
It began with an appearance of the Carl Jung quote, “What you resist not only persists, but will grow in size”  which was followed, a few hours later, by Eckhart Tolle's  version: “Whatever you fight, you strengthen, and what you resist, persists.”
The underlying message, and evidently something the Universe wants m...

Noticing is a Choice

Noticing is a Choice

When I was in school, many decades ago, I was at an institution attached to the Church of England. I was taught about the history and content of the Bible, and a little bit of specific dogma. We also had a modern science curriculum with lessons on gravity and the chemical composition of the air around us.
In those days, any depiction of life on Earth was usually portrayed as a pyramid, with a tall European man standing at the peak. This was the model for further ...

Shifting Shapes and Taking Action

Shifting Shapes and Taking Action

I have been writing a lot about archetypes this week. I have also used the Carolyn Myss Archetype Cards deck in several readings, and I have had many conversations about the ways the archetype cards point to specific behaviours and situations and necessary actions.
With any card reading, I have absolute faith that synchronicity will ensure that the correct cards appear in the spread. The person seeking guidance – the querant -- is always granted the...

Sometimes There Are No Exact Words

Sometimes There Are No Exact Words

Vocabulary is one of the trickiest things about my life just now.
Words are very culturally rooted, and the same word, when written for a broad audience, can sometimes be interpreted in different and entirely misleading ways.
When I was a child in 1960s England, I had a distant relative, known to me as “auntie” who had been born in the 1880s and lived her whole life in a small region in England. For her, the word starving described a cold ...

Intricate Structure Underlies Life

Intricate Structure Underlies Life

The Ocean Oracle, developed by marine biologist Michelle Hansen, is a new and different card deck which allows people to tap in to synchronicity through images of sea-shells and access messages from the Unseen.

Throughout history sea-shells have been regarded as treasure; gifts from the sea; mystical rewards from the ocean depths.
Holding a conch shell to the ear reveals the sound of the ocean humming gently within. This is a natural vibration,...

Telling Fortunes and Obedience

Telling Fortunes and Obedience

I recently met “Mildred,” a woman who was visibly upset by the idea of card readings. Sixty years ago, as a girl of twelve, Mildred and her adult sister visited a fairground Fortune Teller, excited about ‘knowing the future’.
The reader had delighted them with visions of a handsome husband and a happy life, then delivered the information that one day ‘half of your children will die in a fire.’
Even as a great-grandmother Mildred grew emo...

Books Change Lives -- when we choose

Books Change Lives -- when we choose

When people discuss books that changed their thinking, my friends often hark back to books 20 and 30 and even 40 years ago. Certainly I read some life-changers back then.
That said, though, there are some awesome books I have found recently that have challenged my way of being in the world, and changed my life.
A book that changed my framework for living is Daniel Pink's _A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future_. It is much mo...

Synchronicity; Inspiration; Remembering

Synchronicity; Inspiration; Remembering

Although this website has my name as its domain, it is called Exploring Paths to Cosmic Wisdom. I have a Facebook page by the same name, and I don’t often talk about the nature of the title.

When I was beginning to emerge from my grief at being widowed, I connected with a Spiritual Centre near my home. I was interested in promoting my long-standing numerology practice to their clients.

The owner and I had some discussions, and I atte...

Accessing Synchronicity

Posted by Jo Leath on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, In : Synchronicity

Accessing Synchronicity
Accessing Synchronicity is a name for finding a way to connect with the wisdom that exists within.
I believe that each of us is a spiritual being, currently experiencing the human dimension.
Our Spiritual aspect is immortal, and can access wisdom and memories and truths that are simply too great to fit into our puny little brains.
For our brains, however, to gain entry to that body of wisdom we need maps and methods and shortcuts.
     For some, the qui...
