Celebrate December

Celebrate December

December is busy with winter festivals.

On December 6th, Christians mark Saint Nicholas Day, and two days later, Roman Catholics commemorate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
The 8th is also Bodhi Day, when Buddhists celebrate Siddhartha Gautama’s enlightenment.
Eid Milad UnNabi commemorates the birthday of the Holy Prophet in Islam. It is celebrated on December 12th, the same day as the Christian Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Stop. Look. Listen.

Stop. Look. Listen.

Stop, Look, and Listen. These are words that have followed me from childhood.
In the UK, in the late 1950s, and early 1960s, 'Stop, Look, and Listen' was the slogan for a road safety campaign aimed to teach children how to behave before crossing a road.

In some human habitats autumn leaves are scooped up and transported away. I am lucky to live where the natural cycle continues, mostly uninterrupted, until snow impedes us: it is then that we feel entitled to mo...

Oxbow Flow

Oxbow Flow

When I think and talk about allowing life to flow, I often use the image of a river. Water moves along, bringing circumstances and relationships to us at the correct times, and offering obstacles when we are prepared to overcome them.
Thinking of life and time as a flowing river helps to connect with the motion of life, the progress, and  the change that is constant in the Human Condition.
Human lives, however, tend not to simply follow a direct or featureless line: life c...
